7/15
- Good clear opening - interesting to focus on male Muslim representation.
- Institution point (BBC 1/ BBC 3) is an interesting and probably accurate statement but not entirely clear how it fits into the issue/investigation.
- Good knowledge of the text and characters and this is clearly communicated to audience.
- Issues of reputation are raised but need to take this further by the wider cultural issues.
- Can we link Islamophobia to this? Surely this is based on a true story and therefore not a case of negative representation?
- Stereotypes of Asian fathers - are they all negative? Strictness - Subjective opinion surely?
- Presentation loses focus a little - doesn't quite get into the depth required for A2, particularly in terms of culture, wider context and Islamophobia.
- Own opinion is offered at the end but again this will need to be developed through research to take on more of the bigger media issues/debates.
- Q + A - Very relevant first question - The link between Islamophobia + the text. Question is not answered with clarity - lacking the insight/depth as outlined above.
- Another good Question - the answer picking up on representation of men is interesting - but their wasn't particularly addressed in the presentation.
- Q + A is a real struggle - not able to engage with good questions at a sophisticated level and will need to develop this for the investigation.
WWW - I believe that the ignite presentation that I did was better than I thought it would be. Simply because that when I was rehearsing the presentation, I would get the timing right but when it came to the actual presentation, I did it really well.
-Another thing that I thought I did really well is that I had a good opening to the presentation which made the audience seem a lot more interested, e.g. I started to talk about the movie at the beginning and only showed pictures and a small amount of words.
EBI - Personally, I think that overall, I could have done a lot better. My main problem was the ending when the 'Q and A' took place. I feel that when I was being questioned, I didn't have any good answers to have a real debate with the audience. Also, there were some questions where I wouldn't even have an answered for it and would struggle to give an opinion.
One of the ways the presentation is linked to my critical investigation is through the actual debate. My debate is about the representations on male Muslims; this is the main topic I am going to be discussing in the critical investigation since there is a great link between the text and this debate. Another thing I will be looking at it is the relationship of BBC Three with the text. For example, I will be looking at the target audience for BBC Three and what the target audience for the text (Murdered by my father) is. Furthermore, in my presentation, the debates that I was looking at 'Representation of male Muslim' and 'Islamophobia'. However, I am thinking of changing the debate to 'The representation of men is the Asian community'. This is because I believe that there isn't a great link between the text and Islamophobia and I believe that I can talk more about the Asian community.
